Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Deputy Party Leader and Mombasa Governor Abdullswamad Sheriff has outlined plans to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasising unity and retention of key political talent.

In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, the deputy party leader spoke of his recent engagement with Nairobi ODM leader, who is also Makadara MP George Aladwa. Adbullswamad highlighted the party’s strategy to consolidate support across all elective positions.

“I met with the Chairman of ODM Nairobi, George Aladwa, to deliberate on strategies to secure majority seats across all elective positions in the 2027 elections, while ensuring that we retain and nurture our most formidable political talent within the party,” Sheriff said.

He emphasised the importance of internal consensus-building, noting that party cohesion will be critical to achieving electoral success and ensuring that ODM remains at the forefront of national decision-making.

“We will continue to engage, persuade, and build consensus among all stakeholders to ensure unity and ruthless focus as we work toward forming government in 2027. ODM is too big and too influential to be in opposition. We must be firmly at the decision-making table to advance the interests of our people,” he added.

Balanced electoral strategy

Abdullswamad’s statement shows an approach to party management, seeking to balance electoral strategy with the cultivation of leaders who can champion ODM’s agenda at both the county and national levels.

He stressed the importance of retaining capable leaders and providing them with platforms to serve the public effectively. With Kenya preparing for its next general elections, ODM is consolidating its internal structures and outreach mechanisms, aiming to position itself as a dominant political force.
