Aaron Cheruiyot: Opposition has no agenda, Ruto headed for landslide win
By Emmanuel Rono, June 5, 2026Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot has dismissed the opposition leaders as lacking a clear agenda and predicted that President William Ruto will secure a direct victory in the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at a public gathering on June 5, 2026, Cheruiyot said the opposition had failed to present alternative policies to Kenyans and was instead relying on political rhetoric and criticism of the government.
“Hii kura ambayo inakuja ya 2027, initially nilikuwa nimemwekea rais Ruto passmark ya 60 per cent. Lakini nikiangalia vile hawa watu wa upinzani wanazidi kuchanganyikiwa, nataka kumwambia usipopata 70 per cent hata wewe utakuwa umetuangusha sana,” Cheruiyot said.
Lack of a plan
The Kericho senator argued that President Ruto is facing opponents who lack a coherent plan for the country’s future.
“Unashindana na watu hawana plan, hawana ajenda. Hakuna siku watasungumzia maendeleo. Kazi yao ni kungoja mtu akikufa, wakimbie mazishi kuongea siku mzima na kusema vile wataangusha William Ruto,” he said.
Cheruiyot also accused opposition leaders of engaging in divisive politics instead of offering solutions to the challenges facing the country.
“Hii kelele yenu tumesikiza tukijiuliza pengine kuna kitu mnajua, lakini mwisho nimekuja kugundua hii ni kelele ya utapeli na ukabila. Hakuna siku yenye mnakaa chini kupanga vile Kenya itasonga mbele,” he said.
Cheruiyot’s defends Kenya Kwanza govt
The Senate Majority Leader defended the Kenya Kwanza administration, saying the country’s economic difficulties were inherited and could not be solved overnight.
Cheruiyot further criticized threats of street protests by government critics, maintaining that political competition should be settled through the ballot.
“Hizi shida ambazo ziko Kenya, kama ingekuwa rahisi, si wale marais wengine wangekuwa wamemaliza? Mbona ilipatikana nchi iko na shida? Tulifika aje mahali tunadaiwa karibu 70 per cent ya pesa zile ambazo tunakusanya?” he posed.
“Kenya ni nchi ya demokrasia. Kila mtu ako na maoni yake, na ile maoni ya maana ni kura. Kura ndio msema kweli,” he said.
