The Directorate of Criminal Investigation’s (DCI) Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) has tightened its noose on drug dealers in the country as they have arrested more than nine suspects in the last two weeks and recovered drugs worth over Sh15 million.

The detectives are also tracking down Nancy Indoveria Kigunzu, popularly known as ‘Mathe wa Ngara’ after she escaped from an apartment in Juja where drugs were also recovered on Friday.

Detectives from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) arrested two individuals suspected of being drug dealers after discovering suspicious plants in their car in the Mastore area of Juja.

They recovered six sacks of bhang and arrested David Ochieng Okoth and Christopher Odipo Ochieng.

In another case, two suspects were also arrested for the possession, sale and distribution of cannabis after ANU found their hideout.

In an intelligence-driven operation conducted on Thursday, ANU detectives and officials from the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) raided a den behind Kangundo Road market and recovered 360 rolls of cannabis sativa.

Rufftone Kinuthia Ngeruro and Joseph Kangethe Kamau were arrested, according to the detectives.

On the same day, drug traffickers narrowly escaped a police dragnet abandoning a haul of seven sacks of cannabis valued at over Sh4.6 million in Malindi. Acting on a tip-off from vigilant members of the public, detectives from Malindi ANU intercepted a vehicle along the Kilifi-Malindi road in the Mtondia area.

The occupants however escaped and upon search, officers recovered seven sacks of bhang weighing 155 kilograms, with an estimated street value of Sh4.6 million.

“The detectives are currently in hot pursuit of the elusive drug traffickers and it is just a matter of time before they are smoked out of their hideouts,” DCI stated on X.
