The Kenya National Union of Nurses (Knun) yesterday continued to pile pressure on police to arrest persons behind the brutal murder of their colleague, whose mutilated body was discovered in a thicket in Nandi county on Saturday.

Addressing nurses outside Kisumu county headquarters after a peaceful protest, the union’s deputy secretary general Maurice Opetu gave authorities a three-day ultimatum to arrest suspects.

“If no suspect will have been nabbed by Wednesday, then we will down tools to further press for justice. We will do so until the culprits are brought to book,” he said.

The body of 40-year-old Ferdinand Ongeri, who at the time of his death was the unions’ Kisumu county deputy chairperson, was retrieved from Kimondo forest where it had been dumped.  

The decomposing body, according to police, was found by a herdsboy. It was later taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary in Kisumu.
