Committee appointed to oversee Maraga police changes

The National Steering Committee has been appointed to oversee the implementation of reforms proposed by the Retired Chief Justice David Maraga Taskforce within the National Police Service, Kenya Prisons Service and National Youth Service (NYS) over the next three years.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof Kithure Kindiki has formed the committee and appointed the Principal Secretary of the State Department for Internal Security Dr Raymond Omollo as the chair.

Others include Principal Secretaries from the National Treasury, Correctional Service, Public Service and Cabinet Affairs and also the Solicitor General, Inspector General, Commissioner Generals of Prisons and NYS, as well as the Chairpersons of the NYS Commission and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority.

Kindiki gazetted the committee’s mandate in a notice dated September 13.

The committee will also include representatives from the Chief of Staff and Head of Public Service, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, the Public Service Commission, the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, the National Youth Service Council, and the Kenya Law Reform Commission also form part of the Steering Committee.
