Any Kenyan working in overseas countries will now get an opportunity to earn extra income, thanks to the upcoming Diaspora Bond.

Speaking during an engagement with Kenyans living in Qatar on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, President William Ruto revealed that the government is in the final stages of introducing the bond to help Kenyans abroad invest back home while earning returns.

Diaspora Bond plan

Ruto said the initiative is aimed at allowing Kenyans working outside the country to contribute to national growth while also benefiting financially.

He explained that the government wants to create secure investment channels for diaspora communities who wish to support Kenya’s development.

“We want to see how we can support you, Kenyans working in Qatar, to invest back home and help you structure that investment,” Ruto said.

“We are in the final stages of the Diaspora Bond, on how Kenyans in the diaspora can support Kenya with a Diaspora Bond and also get an investment income.”

According to the president, the idea came as part of the commitments made during the Diaspora Conference held in Kenya last year.

Ruto has promised that his administration will make it easier for Kenyans abroad to take part in the country’s economic agenda.

Boosting diaspora investment

The head of state said the government’s goal is to ensure that Kenyans working abroad have more opportunities not only to send money home but also to grow their wealth through structured investments.

He added that such initiatives will strengthen the link between the diaspora community and Kenya’s development programmes.

Ruto further noted that the Diaspora Bond will provide a safe and transparent platform for Kenyans to channel their money into national projects while earning income.

The president also reassured Kenyans in Qatar that the government will continue improving services for citizens living and working abroad.

He highlighted that new measures are being rolled out to make it easier for them to access government support, including faster passport processing and stricter oversight of recruitment agencies.

Ruto concluded by encouraging Kenyans abroad to take advantage of the new investment opportunities once the Diaspora Bond is launched, saying it will not only benefit them personally but also help in building Kenya’s economy.
