Relief for holiday goers as fuel prices remain unchanged

Kenyans travelling upcountry for December festivities have been handed an early Christmas present, following the government’s decision to maintain fuel prices for the next one month.

In their monthly fuel adjustment that takes effect at midnight today and will be in effect until January 14, 2022, the Energy, Petroleum and Regulatory (EPRA) maintained the prices at their November level.

In Nairobi, a litre of super, diesel and kerosene will retail at Sh129.72, Ksh110.60 and Sh103.54 respectively.

The unchanged prices come despite an increase in the average landed cost of the commodity, which increased across board.

“Despite the increase in the landed cost, the applicable pump prices for this cycle have been maintained as the ones applicable in the previous cycle,” said Epra Director General Daniel Kiptoo, an indication the government was utilising the Petroleum Development Levy to cushion consumers from the otherwise high prices.

During the period, the average landed cost of imported super increased from $606.06 per cubic metre (Ksh68,454.48) in October to $627.80 per cubic metres (Ksh70,910.01) in November, diesel rose to $600.22 per cubic metres (Ksh67,794.85) in November from $$561.06 per cubic metre (Ksh63,371.73) in October, while Kerosene increased from $522.06 per cubic metre (Ksh58,966.68) to $604.43 per cubic litre (Ksh68,270.37).
