SPENDING: The government has announced approximately 106 new job vacancies despite President Wiliam Ruto’s recent declaration of austerity measures to curb spending.

The openings which were listed on the Public Service Commission’s website span across different ministries and state departments.

They include the Ministry of Lands Physical Planning, Forestry, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Mining, Transport, Co-operatives, Labour and Skills Development, Gender and affirmative Action, Youth Affairs and Creative Economy, and Sports.

This announcement comes at a time when Kenyans are mounting pressure on the President and the entire Kenya Kwanza regime to reduce unnecessary expenditure and manage its budget well.

Additionally, they have asked the president to scrap off or merge some departments and ministries that perform the same functions. After rejecting the Finance Bill 2024 in its entirety in June, Ruto proposed a raft of austerity measures to ensure the government lived within its means.

“We live within our means respecting the loud message that is coming from the people of Kenya,” he said in one of his recent addresses to the nation.

In July, the government announced that it had halted all public service recruitments to curb the country’s rising wage bill.
