Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has taken a significant stride in advancing the electric mobility revolution by announcing the formation of a dedicated task force.
The 15-member team is entrusted with the responsibility of crafting a comprehensive national policy framework for electric mobility, solidifying Kenya’s commitment to sustainable transportation.
“In exercise of the powers conferred upon the Cabinet Secretary by the Constitution and the Laws of Kenya, I do establish a taskforce on the development of National Electric Mobility policy, strategy, legislation and regulation,” said Murkonmen in the latest Kenya gazette.
The task force, which will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of transportation in Kenya, will be headed by Daniel Ngumi, and deputised by Jerotich Seii. With their combined expertise, the task force is expected to draw insights from global best practices and tailor them to Kenya’s unique context.
This move places Kenya in the company of other forward-thinking African nations like Ghana and Eswatini, who have already taken strides in adopting electric mobility frameworks. The concerted effort of these countries underscores the growing recognition of the urgent need to transition towards more sustainable modes of transportation.
