Mudibo urges Ministry and Sports Fund to grade federations

Kenya Table Tennis Association (KTTA) president, Andrew Mudibo, has called on the Ministry of Sports and Social Development Fund to initiate a scorecard system, that should be used annually in offering funding and support to Federations in Kenya.

Speaking during the Sports Ministry’s and Sports Arts and Social Development Fund stakeholders engagement with stakeholders at a Nairobi Hotel, Mudibo said: “the Sports Ministry has different entities which sports federations need to work with and get services. Services and requirements of these entities should be brought together by having a scorecard system, that is based on points a federation earns, which will determine the kind of support it gets.”

With the scorecard model, federations performance in all areas from governance to compliance with the law and how they perform locally in development and in international events can be graded and will determine the funding that comes to the federations.

This way each stage will be accountable and the interaction with the Ministry and Fund will be easy. Right now with a substantive CEO at the Fund, Mr Nuh Ibrahim, the Fund has been stabilized and is now operating well and in a professional manner. This is what federations and also sportsmen and sportswomen needed.

Mudibo agreed with the CS and PS on junior development that each federation must have a continuous program, if Kenya is to continue to be a strong nation in the World of sports.

Kenya Table Tennis Association has an ongoing junior program that has been running under the “Tucheze Tebo” platform, which has also seen the growth of its scholarship program, where the best junior players in the country are given scholarships to form 1 at schools that are strong in table tennis and from where the Association runs development programs.

“The model we are using is that we want to also have educated athletes and not just talented athletes when their careers come to an end later in life,” added Mudibo
