Laikipia surpasses own source revenue target, collects record Ksh1.365B

Laikipia Governor Joshua Irungu has announced that the County has recorded its highest-ever own source revenue collection after surpassing its target for the 2025/26 financial year.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Governor Irungu said the county collected more than Ksh1.365 billion, exceeding its annual revenue target by over Ksh15 million.

The governor attributed the record performance to sustained stakeholder engagement, investment in revenue automation, integrated digital systems, improved taxpayer compliance and enhanced service delivery.

“This achievement reflects the power of innovation, accountability and collaboration between the County Government and its citizens. Every shilling collected strengthens the County’s ability to deliver services,” Irungu said.

Trend in latest figures

According to the latest figures, collection mark a steady upward trend in the county’s locally generated revenue over the past five financial years.

Revenue collections rose from Ksh902 million in FY2021/22 to Ksh1.004 billion in FY2022/23, before increasing to Ksh1.101 billion in FY2023/24 and Ksh1.236 billion in FY2024/25. The county has now crossed the Ksh1.365 billion mark in FY2025/26.

Tax obligations

Governor Irungu thanked Laikipia residents for consistently meeting their tax obligations, saying their support had been instrumental in enabling the county to achieve the record collection.

He also praised revenue officers for their commitment and commended the Laikipia County Revenue Board, led by Chairperson Karangu Githua and Chief Executive Officer Kamunya Karundo, for providing leadership that helped drive the county’s revenue growth.

“He expressed his sincere appreciation to the people of Laikipia for their continued support and commitment to meeting their tax obligations, ” the statement by the county read.

The governor said the improved revenue performance would strengthen the county government’s capacity to finance development projects and improve the delivery of essential public services without overreliance on transfers from the national government.
