KRA announces 20-hour eTIMS and TIMS outage
By Aloys Michael, July 22, 2026The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced a 20-hour scheduled maintenance of its Electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) and Tax Invoice Management System (TIMS), temporarily disrupting access to key digital tax services for businesses and taxpayers across the country.
According to a public notice issued on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, the maintenance will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, and end at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026.
During this period, eTIMS and TIMS will be unavailable, affecting all users who rely on the platforms to generate, validate and manage electronic tax invoices.
“Please be advised that there will be a scheduled maintenance of eTIMS & TIMS from Wednesday 22nd July, 2026, 6:00 PM to Thursday 23rd July, 2026, 2:00 PM. We regret any inconvenience caused,” KRA wrote on X.
eTIMS is KRA’s digital invoicing platform that enables businesses to generate and transmit electronic tax invoices in compliance with Kenya’s tax laws, while TIMS supports electronic tax invoice generation through approved tax invoice devices. The systems form a key part of KRA’s efforts to improve tax compliance, reduce tax evasion and digitise revenue collection.
What it means for taxpayers and businesses
The scheduled maintenance means businesses will temporarily be unable to access eTIMS and TIMS to issue electronic tax invoices, validate transactions or carry out other services that depend on the platforms.
Companies with time-sensitive invoicing, VAT compliance or tax reporting obligations are advised to complete urgent transactions before 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday or wait until the maintenance concludes on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.
KRA did not specify the technical upgrades being undertaken but indicated that the outage is part of routine maintenance designed to improve the reliability, security and performance of its digital tax infrastructure.
The maintenance affects all eTIMS and TIMS users, including VAT-registered businesses, manufacturers, retailers and other taxpayers required to issue electronic tax invoices under Kenya’s tax regulations.
Taxpayers should note that the outage is planned and temporary. KRA has not indicated any risk to taxpayer records or previously submitted invoice data, and normal services are expected to resume once the maintenance exercise is completed.
The notice comes as KRA continues expanding the use of digital technologies to strengthen tax administration and enhance compliance across Kenya. eTIMS has become one of the authority’s flagship digital platforms, enabling businesses of all sizes to issue compliant electronic tax invoices while giving KRA greater visibility into commercial transactions.
Businesses and taxpayers searching for information on the KRA eTIMS maintenance, TIMS downtime, eTIMS unavailable today, or when KRA systems will be back online should expect services to resume after 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2026, provided the scheduled maintenance is completed as planned.
The authority has urged all affected stakeholders to plan accordingly and thanked users for their patience during the scheduled system maintenance.
