Kenya pushes diaspora-driven growth in Washington roundtable
By Ndiritu Wanjiru, April 18, 2026The Kenyan Embassy in Washington, D.C. has restated the importance of the Kenyans in the diaspora in national development following a high-level Diaspora Dinner Roundtable with the theme “Unleashing Diaspora Potential to Economic Growth”.
This was an event that was attended by senior government officials, members of Parliament and members of the Kenya diaspora community in the United States to engage in a strategic and forward-looking event.
Taking it to their X handle on Saturday, April 18, 2026, the Kenyan embassy in the US has noted that the roundtable was used to produce ambitious ideas, create dialogue and construct actionable alliances to enhance the economic development, innovativeness and global competitiveness of Kenya.
The Embassy of the Republic of Kenya in Washington, D.C. successfully convened a Diaspora Dinner Roundtable under the theme “Unleashing Diaspora Potential for Economic Growth”, bringing together government officials, honourable members of parliament and members of Kenya’s vibrant diaspora community for a focused and impactful engagement. The Roundtable generated forward-looking dialogue, bold ideas, and actionable partnerships, reaffirming the central role of the diaspora as a key pillar of Kenya’s economic development, innovation ecosystem, and global competitiveness,” the embassy stated.

Call for cooperation between govt and Kenyans in diaspora
The talks were focused on realising diaspora potential by providing investment opportunities, transferring knowledge, and greater cooperation between the government and Kenyans abroad.
The Embassy thanked Roseline Njogu and Central Bank of Kenya Governor Kamau Thugge for being co-sponsors of the event, as they are at the forefront of promoting diaspora participation as part of Kenya’s development agenda.
“The Embassy expresses its sincere appreciation to Ms Roseline Njogu, Principal Secretary, State Department for Diaspora Affairs, and Dr Kamau Thugge, Governor, Central Bank of Kenya, for co-sponsoring this timely and strategic engagement,” the embassy added.
The high-level government leaders, such as Martha Koome and John Mbadi, were present in the forum, and their presence reinforced the government’s desire to embrace inclusive growth and international relations.

Their involvement, even with their national responsibilities, solidified the identity of the diaspora as an essential ally in the process of pushing investment, innovation, and sustainable economic development. The roundtable leaders stressed the importance of having well-organised frameworks of engagement to enable more effective incorporation of the diaspora input in national development priorities.

The Kenyan diaspora in the United States is still transformative in various fields, such as finance, technology, healthcare, and education. They have highly contributed to increasing the visibility and competitiveness of Kenya in the international arena.
The Embassy praised the diaspora community because of its strength, superiority and oneness in national development. Kenyans in the diaspora continue to play a vital role in the future of the economy through remittances, entrepreneurship and exchange of knowledge.
