Kenya Power announces outage in parts of Embakasi on Saturday, October 11

Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) has confirmed that the scheduled power outage will affect the Embakasi areas of Nairobi City County on Saturday, October 11, 2025.

In a public notice released on Friday, October 10, 2025, Kenya Power advised residents in the highlighted region to prepare for disruptions as the service company carries out essential maintenance work.

According to a notice from the utility provider, the maintenance exercise will run from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting several key locations within Embakasi. Areas expected to be impacted include CITAM Embakasi, KSD Business Park, Emirates Business Park, Skyline Estate and Kenya Airways Pride Centre.

Others include Naivas Supermarket Embakasi, Quickmart Supermarket Embakasi, Cabro Kenya Limited, Kirinyaga Construction Company, KEMSA, and other adjacent customers.

”Good Evening, please be informed that the following areas will undergo planned power maintenance tomorrow, 11th October 2025. We regret any inconvenience this may cause during the operation,” the statement said in part.

The company stated that the temporary shutdown is part of ongoing efforts to enhance the reliability and stability of the electricity supply in the Nairobi region.

Kenya Power has urged customers to make necessary arrangements to minimise inconvenience during the maintenance period.

The utility company has apologised for the inconvenience set to be caused by the over eight-hour outage in Embakasi.

The announcement comes a day after the utility firm communicated about a planned nationwide power interruption set for Thursday, October 9, 2025, affecting select counties across different regions.

In a statement posted on its official X account on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, Kenya Power said the blackout would affect parts of Nairobi, Machakos, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, Kakamega, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, and Kiambu counties between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

In Nairobi, customers along Mombasa Road were among those to be affected. The areas included Intercountry, Small World Country Club, Game Ranch, Aquaest, Kanini Clinic, Brava, Lukenya Academy, Ksyumbunguo Hotel, Amazing Kenya, and nearby establishments. Parts of Kitsuru, including Gachie Market, Nyari, sections of Thingiri Road, Redhill Road, and Limuru Road, will also experience interruptions.

In Machakos County, the outage was to affect parts of Matuu Town and surrounding areas such as Kakumini, Kithendu, Muthesya, Mamba, Sofia, and Yatta Water, among others. Kenya Power added that parts of Uasin Gishu County, especially around Kapchumba, including Lower Kiplombe, Kambi Thoma, and Chemambai, would also be in darkness.
