In an attempt to cut down on fraudulent claims by car owners, the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) has unveiled a mobile App that will enable real-time reporting of motor insurance claims for customers.

The AKI Claim Registration Application (CRA) has been unveiled at a time that the sector is chocking from increased rates of fake insurance claims.

It is estimated that 30 per cent of the motor insurance claims reported In the country are fraudulent.

Tom Gichuhi (pictured), AKI executive director said this coupled with other issues such as pricing and management expenses, contribute significantly to the loss-making nature of the business.

“We have developed the application to make the process of reporting a motor insurance claim more convenient. Customers can upload documents and images electronically instead of visiting the insurance company,” he said during the launch of the app at a Nairobi hotel yesterday.

Claim information

Insurance companies on the other hand will receive claim information faster and the claims process can be initiated immediately, added Gichuhi. He said that a reduction in reporting time for the claims and accident cases will greatly reduce fraud.

“In the event of an accident or if someone witnesses an accident, the application allows one to upload images and videos of the accident.

The app also allows one to upload documents such as a police abstract, ID and driving license,” Guchuhi explained.

“All this information is relayed to the insurance company to initiate the claims process.” Customers will receive progress reports of their claims via the app.– Jacktone Lawi
