Bolt denies claims of exiting Kenyan market

Ride-hailing company Bolt has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that it plans to exit the Kenyan market, terming a widely shared document as fake and reaffirming that its operations in the country remain unchanged.

In a statement issued late on Monday, June 1, 2026, the company said the document claiming it would cease operations on June 8, 2026, did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any authorised representatives. The company said it remains fully operational across the country.

“It has come to our attention that a fraudulent document purporting to be an official communication from Bolt Kenya is currently circulating on social media and messaging platforms,” read Bolt’s Instagram post in part.

“We wish to categorically state that this document is FAKE and did not originate from Bolt Kenya or any of its authorised representatives.”

Bolt added that it is investigating the source of the document and warned against the spread of misinformation.

Company denies exit claims

Bolt confirmed that it continues to operate in Kenya and serve both drivers and customers without interruption. The company said it remains committed to providing transport services across the country and supporting its driver-partners.

“We are currently investigating the source of the fabricated document and will take appropriate action against the creation and dissemination of misleading information that misrepresents the company.”

The clarification comes amid concerns raised on social media regarding the future of the ride-hailing platform in Kenya with unverified reports claiming that it would exit the Kenyan market on June 8, 2026. Bolt said its operations remain stable and ongoing.

The statement was issued by Dimmy Kanyankole, Senior General Manager for East Africa, Bolt, who urged the public to disregard the false document.

“We would like to reassure our community that Bolt continues to operate normally in Kenya and remains focused on delivering safe, reliable, and innovative services while creating economic opportunities across the country.”

Public urged to rely on official channels

Bolt called on driver-partners, customers, and members of the public to ignore the circulated document and avoid sharing unverified information.

“We urge all driver-partners, customers, and members of the public to disregard the circulating document in its entirety, refrain from sharing or amplifying this misinformation, and rely solely on accurate information from Bolt Kenya through our verified channels, including our official website, verified social media accounts, and the Bolt app,” continued the statement.

The company further encouraged stakeholders to seek clarification through its communications team where necessary.

Bolt also stated that it remains focused on maintaining service delivery and strengthening its presence in the Kenyan market through its transport platform.
