The heightened verbal spat between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto is a recipe for chaos, Thika Town MP Patrick Wainaina ‘WaJungle’ has warned.

The legislator asked the two leaders to tone down as the country gears for the general election in about a week’s time.

“What we are witnessing is a recipe for chaos and a threat to peaceful elections. It is dangerous,” said Wainaina who is contesting the Kiambu governorship as an independent candidate.

President Kenyatta who has expressed support for the Azimio – One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga and Ruto who is the Kenya Kwanza coalition flag bearer have in recent days exchanged bitter words in public meetings with the latter telling his boss to stop attacking him or threatening those who support him.

Speaking to journalists after meeting members of non-Kikuyu communities living in the county, Wainaina said the unkind exchanges between the two leaders could fuel tensions among Kenyans.

“Let us learn from past experiences and teach our people to live in peace and harmony. Even after August 9, Kenya will remain,” he said while at the same time asking leaders not to divide Kenyans.

Wainaina pledged to incorporate members of all communities in his government should he become the next governor.

“More than 30 per cent of the Kiambu population is made up of non-Kikuyus. We cannot ignore their contribution to the region’s economy,” he added.

At the same time, the candidate criticized some aspirants who have been interrupting their opponents’ meetings and asked the electoral body to take action.

Similarly, leaders of the ‘Diaspora’ communities in Kiambu County echoed Wainaina’s sentiments and called on leaders to uphold peace and unity as the country goes to the polls.

The group leaders who spoke to journalists after endorsing Wainaina’s candidature urged him to consider working closely with all communities should he be elected, regretting that most of them have previously failed to clinch key positions in the county government as well as experiencing bias in the allocation of government funds.

The community leaders urged residents to disregard party euphoria in their voting plan and elect persons with proven track records and people’s interests at heart.

Also in the Kiambu governorship race is the incumbent James Nyoro (Jubilee), Senator Kimani Wamatangi (UDA), former Governor William Kabogo (Tujibebe party), Mwende Gatabaki (Safina), Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria (Chama Cha Kazi) and Agnes Ndung’u (Independent).
