Security has been beefed up in Mombasa county as IEBC prepares to conduct gubernatorial elections scheduled for tomorrow, Monday, August 29.

Coast region police Commander, Titus Ndugu Karuri has said, that security apparatus in Mombasa county were fully prepared to oversee tomorrow’s exercise.

He vowed that the exercise would go uninterrupted as enough police officers had been deployed to all polling stations across the coastal county.

Thousands of police officers drawn from neighbouring counties of Kwale, Kilifi and Taita Taveta counties have been deployed to offer backup and support.

“We have more than enough police officers, even those who have come to offer us support are still our officers despite where they are drawn from,” he said.

The officers were drawn from a multiagency team and were ferried to regional police headquarters in Mombasa using school buses for deployment in various polling stations.

“We have enough police officers and a heavy security presence is expected. Deployment is now ongoing already to guarantee free, fair and credible elections,” he said.

Karuri spoke in his office at the coast region police headquarters where he noted that they had earmarked hot spot areas among them Changamwe.

“We are aware of Changamwe and although it had not been previously featured as a hot spot area, our attention has been drawn there and we have increased police officers in that area. We have further secured all polling stations within Mombasa to enable residents to exercise their rights,” he added.
