CS Amina highlights 5 achievements in Uhuru’s government
With the Madaraka celebrations done and dusted, here are the 5 sporting achievements under Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed’s docket.
1. Bringing back the WRC
While being interviewed at President Uhuru Kenyatta last Madaraka day celebrations as head of state, CS Amina was quick to term the come back of the WRC Safari Rally as her biggest achievement under the administration.
In June 26, 2021, President Kenyatta announced that Kenya will host WRC Safari Rally every year until 2026.
While presenting the prizes to winners of the 2021 WRC Safari Rally Kenya at the Kenya Wildlife Service Training Institute (KWSTI) in Naivasha, the Head of State and patron of the rally said the Government secured the hosting rights of the motorsport event from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) and the WRC after years of intense lobbying and preparations.
2. First African country to host continental tour
With top athletes; Jamaican legendary sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser and Kenya’s fastest man Ferdinand Omanyala in the limelight, Kenyans got to witness the 3rd edition of the Kip Keino Classic Continental Tour.
An achievement CS Amina termed as historic with Kenya being the first African country to host the spectacle.
3. Building Stadiums across the country
While tthis may sound a bit unconvincing, CS Amina wasn’t shy to mention how her department managed to achieve success in building stadiums country-wide. “Carrying out the president’s directives including what was in the manifesto – building the stadia across the country that we have been able to build.” said CS Amina.
So far CS Amina’s docket has been able to commission the construction of Gusii Stadium, Dandora Stadium, Kiambu-Kirigiti Stadium, Mombasa stadium and Kisumu stadium
4. Marathon on the Expressway
The Marathon dubbed Uhuru Classic was also mentioned by CS Amina as a hallmark to her success in the sports ministry.
Hundreds turned up on May 8 2022 for the official launch of the Nairobi Expressway with the Marathon marking it’s curtain raiser.
5. Best African country at the Olympics
Kenya marked the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a stellar performance that saw the country rank 19th place overall and the top most African country in the games.
Kenya managed to bag 4 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 2 bronze medals.
