Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential flag bearer William Ruto has retaliated that he has no issue with whoever manages the August General Election provided that are competitively recruited.

Speaking at Windsor Hotel on Wednesday, June 29 during the consultative forum between Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the four presidential candidates, DP Ruto said he was even comfortable with Raila Odinga’s brother Oburu Odinga being the IEBC chairman.

“I am on record Mr. Chairman, saying that even if my competitors’ brother was the chairman of IEBC, I would have no problem so long as he’s competitively recruited.” DP Ruto said.

According to the UDA supremo, the recruitment of officers should not be based on the ethnic background of an individual.

“We have no problem with any Kenyan serving in any capacity so long they have been recruited competitively and they have the requisite skills and competencies. We have no preference for any Kenya from any community,” He stated.

The second in command appeared to take an issue with the Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition party which had complained about the criteria for the recruitment of returning officers.

“And if our competitors have a problem with certain Kenyans from certain communities you can work out with them,” DP Ruto said.

Raila left after Ruto arrived

Earlier on there was drama after the ODM leader and his running mate Martha Karua left the IEBC meeting after the arrival of DP Ruto flanked by the Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki.

“We’re sorry for leaving the meeting early but duty calls, we are leaving behind a strong team to represent us,” Karua stated before exiting the room.

Controversial Roots Party candidate George Wajackoyah and David Waihiga of the Agano party also attended the IEBC meeting that was aimed at addressing concerns raised by candidates on the August election preparedness.

Speaking on October 18, 2022, the Kenya Kwanza Alliance presidential candidate that even if the ‘Deep State’ appoints Oburu Odinga as the chair of the electoral agency, he would still defeat his arch-rival ODM leader in the State House contest.

“Let them appoint whoever they want to chair IEBC. We are ready for whoever becomes the chair or a commissioner, I hear some people saying that Ruto has been duped. I want to tell them they can even appoint Oburu Odinga to be the chairman of IEBC because I know they will not decide, it is the people who will decide,” Ruto was quoted as saying.
