Newbies outshine veteran Kakamega politicians

Careers of several seasoned politicians in Kakamega county have come to an abrupt end after they were defeated by newcomers.

Nine Members of Parliament, however, retained their seats, with some securing third terms while others managed to break the one-term jinx.

All the legislators who were initially close allies of Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, and who landed direct ODM tickets after decamping to Azimio-One Kenya Alliance won their respective seats.

Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito and his Likuyani counterpart Enock Kibunguchy were some of the casualties after losing to political upstarts.

Kizito lost to businessman Fred Ikana (pictured) while Innocent Mugabe, a lawyer, floored Kibunguchy. Kizito came a distant third after garnering 5,103 votes. Ikana managed 17,547 votes followed by former MP Lisamula Anami with 11,201.

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malalah and Lugari MP Ayub Savula are waiting for their fate after voting for the gubernatorial seat was postponed.
