Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika have finally buried the hatchet, ending a protracted supremacy war that threatened UDA’s fortunes in Nakuru county.

On Friday, June 24, 2022, the legislators joined Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate Rigathi Gachagua in a political lap of Nakuru County.

The foes-turned-friends shared the same car during the campaigns and addressed several whistle-stop rallies while atop the exact vehicle.

Genesis of Kimani-Kihika war

The duo had been entangled in a murky sibling rivalry that saw Kimani Ngunjiri endorse Kihika’s main competitor in the Nakuru gubernatorial race. In an unprecedented move, Kimani publicly avowed his support for Azimio’s flagbearer Lee Kinyanjui despite sharing a political party and coalition with Kihika.

The Nakuru politico rallied his constituents behind the Azimio candidate during the Madaraka Day celebrations at Kiamaina in Bahati.

“I want to urge residents of Bahati to be keen while voting in the forthcoming General Election. In Nakuru County, jibu ni Lee and in Bahati, jibu ni Ngunjiri,” he said.

Rattled by Ngunjiri’s pronouncement, Susan Kihika took to her social media platforms to urge her supporters in Bahati constituency to vote out the veteran MP.

“Ati yule jamaa wa Bahati amesema nini leo? Kama maneno iko hivyo na mimi ninasema watu wangu wa Bahati roundi hii tucheze kama sisi, kwani iko nini. Waende home na Governor Kinyanjui” (I hear he has endorsed my rival. If that is the case, I urge my people of Bahati to ensure the two go home,” she posted.

The leaders now appear to have put their differences behind them and are keen on ensuring their presidential candidate bags a vast chunk of votes in the vote-rich county.
