Murang’a gubernatorial aspirant Irungu Kang’ata has unveiled his new running mate after dropping Dr Winnie Mwangi.

This follows a claim by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) that Dr Winnie, a lecturer at the University of Nairobi, did not resign within the legal timelines.

In a statement, the senator announced Stephen Mburu Munania as his new deputy.

“We mutually agreed to replace DG. UDA Muranga DG designates now is Stephen Mburu Munania,” the statement read in parts.

Notably, Mburu Munania hails from the same ward as Winnie; Kariara ward, in Gatanga constituency- the most populated ward in Murang’a county.

Mburu Munania is a 29-year-old from Karega, Mbugiti, Kariara ward in Gatanga Constituency.

He is a degree holder in International Diplomacy and has previously worked as an Assistant County Commissioner Cadet in Kenol.

Mburu lost in Kariara ward UDA primaries to Jeremy Gichobe Mbatia.

Kang’ata and the UDA party have expressed confidence in the new appointee.

“UDA picked him to represent the marginalised youth and brings public administration experience into county management.”
