Jubilee, Narc Kenya governor seat candidates trade barbs in Kirinyaga
A heated exchange of words between Narc Kenya and the Jubilee Party has escalated in Kirinyaga County after the latter called for the Karua-led party to pull out of the Kirinyaga county gubernatorial race during the August 9 polls.
According to the current Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri, Narc Kenya should be satisfied with the appointment of Martha Karua as Raila Odinga’s running mate.
Ndambiri alluded that since the Karua-led party has secured Deputy President’s seat, if Raila is elected the fifth president, then the party should forget about having a gubernatorial candidate in the agricultural rich county.
“We don’t have a problem with Narc Kenya party clinching position of the Deputy President, but then they are supposed to let Jubilee fly Kirinyaga county gubernatorial seat under Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance,” Ndambiri told his followers during a political meeting in Kutus town.
Jubilee is more prevalent in Mount Kenya
He said Jubilee Party is more popular than Narc Kenya within the county.
Ndambiri, the current Deputy Governor of Kirinyaga County, is also Senator Charles Kibiru’s running mate.
Kibiru is vying for the gubernatorial seat on a Jubilee party ticket.
If Kibiru wins, Ndambiri will automatically become a deputy governor for two terms under two different governors.
But that notwithstanding, the idea of Narc Kenya gubernatorial seat pulling out of the race attracted strong criticism from the Karua’s party flag bearer, Muriithi Kagai.
Kagai termed the idea as ‘wishful’ and ‘mediocre.’
“It’s about Wanjiku, not about Jubilee or Narc Kenya. We need people who can deliver so that it will be merit, not mediocrity. It is wishful thinking,” Kagai told People Daily Digital.
