Independent aspirants want poll postponed to October
Friday 08th July, 2022 06:10 AM|
Independent presidential aspirants have vowed to go to court to stop the August 9 General Election if their concerns are not addressed by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
Thirdway Alliance Party leader Ekuru Aukot urged IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati to comply with High Court ruling which declared the requirement that independent candidates submit copies of their supporters’ IDs unconstitutional.
“If they still continue with this, we will go back to court,” said Aukot.
He said the election should be put on hold until October to give IEBC more time to address their concerns.
“Article 137 is very clear and we want this elections to be done according to the Constitution,” he said.
