IEBC turns away Kirinyaga governor aspirant over missing EACC stamp
Kirinyaga gubernatorial aspirant Silvanus Comba Ndau on Sunday, June 5, 2022, faced hurdles in his bid to be cleared by the Independent and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to vie in the August general election.
The vetting committee turned the politician away on grounds that an official stamp was missing on a clearance certificate allegedly issued by the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC).
Ndau, who is seeking to vie for the governor seat on a KADU Asili party ticket, had checked into the IEBC Kerugoya office for clearance only to be turned away after it emerged that the certificate presented by his running mate had not been stamped.
IEBC official Jane Gitonga directed the duo to return to the commission’s office for clearance tomorrow once the document has been certified.
While addressing the media shortly after appearing before the commission, Ndau explained that the document by Muchira Gacenge did not have the EACC stamp because the running mate applied for it online.
“Muchira Gacenge made the application online hence the document does not have an official stamp that is stamped when applying the document from EACC offices,” he stated.
He noted that it won’t be possible to have the certificate stamped today (Sunday) since EACC offices are closed on Weekends.
“Being a Sunday, many offices are closed but we will have it stamped first thing in the morning so that we proceed here for clearance,” he said.
