Graft: You are preaching water, drinking wine, Ruto tells Raila
Deputy President William Ruto yesterday continued his campaigns in Northern Kenya where he is courting pastoralist communities to solidify his candidature in the August 9 election.
A day after touring Isiolo, Ruto addressed a series of rallies in Marsabit County where he hit out at Azimio-One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga over what he termed as insincerity in the war against corruption.
He claimed the former Prime Minister has been protecting corrupt governors for selfish political reasons.
“You have no business giving us lectures about corruption when you are using corruption proceeds to campaign. You cannot be dining with the corrupt and giving us lectures on corruption. Don’t preach water while you drink wine,” said the DP.
He urged pastoralist communities to reject Azimio, saying Raila has nothing to offer them.
Ruto pledged to tackle insecurity in the region should Kenya Kwanza form the next government and apologised to the residents “on behalf of the government” for the suffering they have gone through.
“We will end bandit attacks and cattle rustling. You are taxpayers like other Kenyans and you deserve security from the government. It is not a favour,” the DP said at Sololo Town.
He claimed security agencies were being used to play partisan politics instead securing the lives and property of Kenyans.
Big Four
Garissa Township MP Aden Duale accused the government of using government agencies to intimidate Ruto allies.
He called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to keep off succession politics and allow Kenyans to make their own choices.
Duale also accused the government of perpetrating extra-judicial killings and forced disappearance of youth in the guise of the fight against terrorism.
He said some leaders from the region had become “prisoners of the State” instead of protecting the interests of the people and called on voters to reject them in next month’s election.
Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki claimed Jubilee government’s Big Four agenda collapsed when the President started to work with Raila. “The Jubile government did a very good job in its first term but the moment Mr Kitendawili (Raila) arrived everything collapsed,” Kindiki said.
Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro said President Kenyatta’s support in Central Kenya was dwindling with many leaders joining forces with the DP.
