Athletics Kenya (AK) is mourning long distance runner Willy Chelewa who was found dead on Monday, a week after taking part in the Nairobi City Marathon.

The cause for his death has not yet been established after some of his friend found his body at his home in Kaptagat, Uasin Gishu County. The 28-year old trained at the weekend with his partners but failed to show up Monday. His lifeless body was found at his residence with no visible injuries.

Police in Kaptagat are now handling the matter after collecting samples from the site of death. The news of his death was confirmed by Elgeyo Marakwet Police Commander Peter Mulinge.

There are conflicting versions of his death with other sources claiming he died after consuming some food at a hotel in Kaptagat center.
