Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko could have set himself up for impeachment and the political storm he is currently facing, experts say.

They argue that Sonko threw himself into political chaos, when he sat out in the rain and considered himself immune to wetness, especially after he signed off and surrendered some functions to the National Government.

Masinde Muliro University don Egara Kabaji argues that “Sonko suffers from Hubris.” 

Hubris, in Greek mythology, describes a character who suffers from excess pride, he is arrogant and carries a self-destructive seed. 

“He is too confident but finally he ends up rejected and dejected. A hubric character, through his actions, sets up himself for failure.

A hubric character does not take advice, mistreat subordinates, makes it difficult for the institutions they run to operate optimally. That was Sonko,” said Kabaji. 

Political analyst Javas Bigambo asserts that Sonko threw himself into political chaos. 

Although Sonko is legally permitted to explore all judicial and appellate mechanisms available to him in pursuit of justice, the political storm and forces are against him.

“His perceived theorem that he can be fully cleared and allowed to run for public office may amount to so much of personal entertainment of thought.

He needs to retrace his political steps and reduce the energy of making enemies in high places,” said Bigambo.

Political analyst Martin Oloo however, opines that Sonko and his ilk are avid in their public service approach and political strategies, in which they take a short term view, when they should be adopting a long term view. 

“His fall is typical of the fate of a marathon runner who takes a 100 meter dash approach. Impeachment to negate his role in Nairobi was inevitability. It was a matter of when not if,”he said.
