‘He is ready for anything’ – MP David Gakuya defends CS Muturi amid impeachment threats
Days after Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi gave an explosive account of what transpired when his son, Leslie Muturi, was abducted, a storm has continued to build up within the political arena.
What was viewed by some players as a distressed parent coming out to vent his frustration, morphed into a political battle with lawmakers taking sides on the matter.
On Friday, January 17, 2025, Embakasi North Member James Mwangi Gakuya weighed into the debate while siding with now-under-pressure CS Muturi.
Speaking on K24 TV‘s New Dawn show, Gakuya maintained that Muturi was ready for the repercussions of coming out and detailing what transpired when his son went missing.
He argued that the former Attorney General could not have issued such an all-telling statement if he was not ready to face the political heat.
Others should come out
While backing the under-siege Labour Cabinet Secretary, Gakuya commended his bravery insisting that more Kenyans needed to emulate him. The vocal MP insisted that such exposes would help shed light on who was behind a series of abductions in the country and help find a lasting solution since the National Police Service (NPS) absolved themselves from the matter.
“Muturi is ready for anything. But my position is that we need to encourage more Muturi’s to come out probably they have more information but they are afraid to come out,” Gakuya stated.
“We need broad men like this one because a country cannot be ailing with the current scenario and nobody seems to be knowing anything including having a foreigner, Kizza Besigye, who was abducted from Nairobi and taken through our border to Uganda. This tells you, something is wrong somewhere.
“In my opinion should be left to work and if they think impeachment is the way forward, Muturi is ready for that,” he added.
Impeachment threats
Following his explosive statement where he linked the National Intelligence Service (NIS) to his son’s disappearance, Muturi received calls to quit or face impeachment.
Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro threatened to push for the ouster of the Public Service CS if he failed to withdraw his statement. Other leaders who threatened to sanction his impeachment included Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi, Leader of Majority Kimani Ichung’wah and MP Junet Mohamed.
“The honourable thing for a CS to do is to resign. If you feel you have been reassigned to another docket lower than what you had, resign! We know you are almost being fired and you wanted to keep stealing,” Ichung’wah stated during a special sitting on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
Junet on his part said, “Nothing stops us from bringing an impeachment motion against you…”
Bring it on
CS Muturi had earlier dared the MPs to go ahead and file the impeachment motion immediately after recording a statement.
He claimed that his son, Leslie, was picked by unknown men at the height of the anti-Finance Bill 2024 protests. His efforts to get answers proved futile as he claimed NIS Director-General Noordin Haji failed to pick up his calls.
However, he claimed that President William Ruto managed to secure his son’s release after calling the NIS boss.
“Standing outside the Pavilion, I heard the president ask Haji if he was holding my son. Haji confirmed it, and the president instructed him to release Leslie immediately,” Muturi stated in his report.
