Report shows 30 died in the hands of relatives, friends
At least 30 people have in the last two weeks been killed by family members or someone they knew.
According to police reports, two couples have been arrested on suspicion of having been involved in the brutal murders of their children.
A couple in Githurai, Nairobi was yesterday arrested on suspicion of killing their nine-year-old son and dumping the body near Sir Ali Muslim Club on Park Road in Pangani.
The body, which had injuries, was on Friday afternoon found by street boys at the dumpsite.
It was not immediately established how the boy or his body reached the scene from Githurai. Police investigations later linked the parents to the murder.
An eyewitness, Peterson Mwangi, yesterday told People Daily they never saw anyone dump the body there, until 1pm when the street boys found it.
“The boy was naked. His body was clean and wrapped in a gunny bag,” he said. In most cases, the relationship of murder victims and offenders are known.
The leading cause is usually by someone known by the victims like friend, neighbour or acquaintance. Some are killed during arguments, or during commission of crimes.
In another shocking incident, detectives revealed that a man who claimed her nine-year-old daughter was defiled before being brutally assaulted to death in Riruta on November 5 is the main suspect in the case.
Innocent narration
Dagoretti DCI boss arrested Benson Shikokoti and his wife. They are expected to be charged in court this week.
According to police, an innocent narration of his six-year-old son regarding how he witnessed his father, in a fit of rage assault his sister after she came home late has exposed a massive cover up by the father to conceal the murder.
The boy, oblivious of the trouble his evidence would cause his father, told the detectives that his sister, Sharleen Felisia, left the house and came back late.
The father then attacked her for coming home late. Detectives, who would bear the burden of proof, went further and corroborated the boy’s evidence.
The father had initially reported that Felisia went missing on Tuesday afternoon and was later found seriously injured on Ngina Road around 1am on Thursday.
He said that at around 1am, he heard the daughter screaming and he picked and took her home.
He says he noticed her left leg had a fracture and another deep wound near the right eye.
Her left arm was also swollen and had wounds on the forehead and the left eye.
Strangely, he said he did not take the daughter to the hospital immediately, until the following morning but she was pronounced dead on arrival. The doctor established she had also been defiled.
In another incident in Nyagacho within Kericho town on Saturday night, a man strangled his elder brother to death after a dispute.
The deceased, Hillary Kibet, went home at around 4am and locked his younger brother’s door from outside.
He then proceeded to their mother’s house and started quarrelling with her. The brother, Enock Kipruto, 28, forced the door open and followed the deceased to their mother’s house where he strangled him to death.
In another related case in Magarini, Kilifi on Friday last week, Furaha Charo, 29, is suspected to have murdered his elder brother in his house.
The body of Alex Charo was found lying in his house with injuries on the neck and back. The suspect is yet to be arrested.
At least 10 other similar incidents have been reported in Machakos, Narok, Kiambu and Nakuru counties, according to police reports.
