Kenya shines at 2025 Boilermaker as Korir and Loleo clinch top honours

Kenya reaffirmed its dominance in road racing as John Korir and Veronica Loleo produced stellar performances to win the men’s and women’s titles at the prestigious Boilermaker 15K road race in New York, United States held on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
The event, recognised by World Athletics, turned into a Kenyan showcase with four runners finishing in the top five in the men’s category.
Korir, fresh off his Boston Marathon triumph, led the charge, crossing the finish line in 42:44 to defend his Boilermaker crown.
Close behind was fellow Kenyan Hillary Kipkoech, who finished second with a time of 43:08. Ethiopian-born U.S. athlete Abbabiya Simbassa settled for third in 43:28, followed by Kenyans Wesley Kiptoo (43:36) and Patrick Kiprop (43:37), who secured fourth and fifth places, respectively.
Korir’s victory adds to his growing list of accolades, including titles at the 2024 Chicago Marathon and the 2025 Boston Marathon.
The 28-year-old, who hails from Cherangany in Trans Nzoia County and is the younger brother of former Boston winner Wesley Korir, is now eyeing more glory in the Abbott World Marathon Majors series.
On the women’s side, Veronica Loleo stunned a strong field to win the 2025 Boilermaker 15K women’s title in 49:37, ensuring Kenya’s double triumph on the American road.
Her performance capped a memorable day for Team Kenya and reinforced the country’s long-standing reputation in global distance running.

The Boilermaker 15K saw a blend of emerging and elite East African athletes shine on U.S. soil. Both Korir and Loleo credited their training and resilience for the wins, which come as a boost ahead of upcoming international assignments.
While Korir has yet to confirm his next race, he is expected to feature in one of the major marathons later in the year, with Berlin, Chicago, New York, and Valencia all potential destinations.
Sunday’s sweep in New York marked yet another milestone for Kenya’s road running legacy on the world stage.
