May 30, 2025: Top news events to look out for today

Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
Ruto continues Nyanza tour
President William Ruto is expected today in Homa Bay for the second day of his four-day working visit to the Nyanza Region, which culminates in the Madaraka Day celebrations on June 1, 2025.
In Homa Bay, the President is set to commission the Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) facility and the Tom Mboya University Maritime Centre of Excellence.
He will also inspect the Homa Bay pier and launch additional initiatives, including a fish market and a technical training institute in Rangwe Sub-County.
The projects fall under the administration’s blue economy strategy and are aimed at unlocking economic potential in the lake region.
Ruto is expected to be joined by Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga and other local leaders.
However, opposition figures have dismissed the development tours as early campaigning ahead of 2027.
Raila at Blue Summit
ODM leader Raila Odinga will today serve as the chief guest at the “Our Water, Our Wealth” Blue Economy Conference being held at the Homa Bay lakefront.

His keynote address is expected to focus on sustainable development through the blue economy and spotlight ongoing infrastructure projects like the fish market and pier. Raila may also address environmental issues affecting Lake Victoria and sustainable fisheries management.
Gachagua plans response
The Democracy for the Citizens Party is expected to respond today following the cancellation of its planned June 3 rally at Kasarani Indoor Arena.
Party leader Rigathi Gachagua may address supporters through a press conference or rally, turning the spotlight on what he calls a campaign of state suppression.

He is likely to cite the event’s cancellation as evidence of political interference and link it to the abductions of opposition figures.
With Ruto and Raila engaged in Nyanza events, Gachagua is expected to use the moment to reinforce his base and reframe the conversation on government accountability and civil liberties.
