Ichung’wah urges Juja residents to recall Koimburi amid abduction saga

Leader of the majority party in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, has appealed to the residents of Juja constituency to consider recalling their Member of Parliament (MP), George Koimburi.
Speaking during the National Assembly plenary session on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Ichung’wah indicated that Juja residents have the power to recall the MP, since his actions do not serve his constituents.
“I want to speak to the people of Juja; they are a great people who have been denied proper representation in this house. The people of Juja are suffering, and I have been there, and I know,” Ichung’wah stated.
The people of Juja must know that you can also recall a member of parliament who is not working for you, representing you, or serving your interest.”
Disciplinary action
Ichung’wah equally urged the National Assembly speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, to initiate disciplinary action on the Juja MP, who is currently recuperating at the Karen Hospital.
“I want to plead with you, speaker, because you are the chairperson of the powers and privileges committee; irrespective of what the National Police Service and the Director of Public Prosecutions or the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) do with Koimburi, the powers and privileges committee must be seized of this matter,” Ichung’wah noted.

“Right now, I am addressing issues touching on electricity connectivity in Juja, and the MP has the audacity to send them a message on WhatsApp group telling them to ask for electricity from Ruto since he left the government a long time ago,” he remarked.
“Whether you are in the government or not, you are elected as a member of parliament to represent your people. When they ask you for services, answer them in a dignified manner,” Ichungwah said.
Police probe self-abduction
On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, revealed that three arrested individuals had informed the police of the planned self-abduction of the MP on Sunday, May 25, 2025, at a church in Mugutha.
The cops also impounded two vehicles believed to have transported the MP to a hotel, where he spent the night before another vehicle dropped him off at a coffee plantation on Monday, May 26, 2025.

“They drove towards Jacaranda Coffee Research via Kambogo Road, where the MP instructed them to stop near a waiting Honda CR-V (Reg. No. KBP 096W) belonging to Kiratu. Cyrus was left with the two men, who warned him not to disclose any information to the police,” police stated.
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who visited the MP at the hospital, said that the legislator had been poisoned and had lost his ability to speak. He, however, noted that he was responding well to treatment after having suffered soft tissue injuries from the ordeal.
“I have seen him and talked to the doctors. They have confirmed that George Koimburi was tortured by professionals. He has soft tissue injuries, a kind of torture done by professionals. He has lost his voice, and the doctors are working around the clock to restore his vocal cords,” Gachagua said on Monday, May 26, 2025.
