Multinational Security Support (MSS) Mission in Haiti Spokesperson Jack Ombaka has set the record straight on the effectivessness of communication between officers and their families.

Speaking during an interview with a local TV station on Saturday, April 5, 2025, Ombaka emphasized that the MSS had undertaken key measures to enhance effective communication, including the combination of the office of the spokesperson with the office of communications.

This, according to him, is to ensure that information reaches the target audience as fast as possible.

He went on to state that having operating social media handles which help with transmitting information to Kenya whenever incidents occur.

“What we have done as MSS, the office of the spokesperson is also the office of the director of strategic communications, these are two offices made into one and the reason behind it is to make sure that information reaches the target audience as fast as possible.

“As we speak, I know mechanism especially as part of communication with the outside world, particularly Kenya, we have so many of our social handles that we have shared online and every time there is an incident, either positive or negative, we share this in our social handles,” he said.

Ombaka, however, admitted that at the start of the operations, communication between officers and their families was a great challenge and to address this, the MSS established wifi facilities everywhere in the bases.

Additionally, he underscored that the President William Ruto-led administration provided every officer with airtime that also included bundles so that they could easily communicate with their loved ones back home.

He further stated that as MSS, they had played their part by opening themselves to the media by being available to address questions asked.

“But of great importance and I want to really emphasize on this, when we came to Haiti, communicating with family was a big problem and the first thing we put in before was the establishment of wifi facilities; as we speak I am using wifi facilities for MSS and every where in their bases, MSS has established wifi, key on top of that, the government of Kenya in its own wisdom is providing each and every officer with airtime that also includes bundles.

“This was ostensibly made so that they could easily communicate with their loved ones back home. Over and above that, as MSS we have opened our doors and windows to the media, so that if there is any questions to be answered, or be asked we are there for them,” he added.

This comes amid growing concerns after the dissapearance of Benedict Kabiru who went missing during an operation.
