Embakasi North Member of Parliament (MP) James Gakuya has criticized Kenya Kwanza politicians for their silence regarding government failures.

Speaking on K24 TV‘s New Dawn show, on Friday, January 24, 2025, Gakuya addressed the politicians, arguing that they represent the people and have a duty to speak out on issues affecting them.

“The fact remains whether you are in government or out of government, it does not mean the government is not made by the people. This government is a government of the people. When the government is wrong, you need to raise your voice wherever you are, whether you’re inside or outside because you are Kenyan,” Gakuya said.

He also praised Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi for his recent comments regarding his son’s abduction.

Muturi faced significant criticism after he held a media briefing in which he condemned abductions and issued a police statement alleging that the National Intelligence Service (NIS) was involved in the abduction of his son, Leslie Muturi.

Bold actions

In defence of the CS, Gakuya described Muturi’s actions as courageous, emphasizing that despite his government position, he was able to speak out against misconduct.

“Muturi was bold enough just to let Kenyans know that it’s no longer a secret that the abductors are not foreigners,” Gakuya said.

On January 17, 2025, Gakuya reiterated his support for Muturi, insisting that more Kenyans should follow his example.

He argued that such revelations could help identify those responsible for a series of abductions in the country and lead to lasting solutions, especially since the National Police Service had distanced itself from the matter.

“Muturi is ready for anything. But my position is that we need to encourage more Muturi’s to come out probably they have more information but they are afraid to come out,” Gakuya stated.

Impeachment threats

Following his controversial remarks linking the NIS to his son’s abduction, Muturi faced threats of impeachment.

Chief Whip Sylvanus Osoro vowed to push for the removal of the Public Service CS if he did not retract his statement.

Other politicians, including Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi, Leader of Majority Kimani Ichung’wah, and MP Junet Mohamed, also threatened to sanction his impeachment.

“The honourable thing for a CS to do is to resign. If you feel you have been reassigned to another docket lower than what you had, resign! We know you are almost being fired and you wanted to keep stealing,” Ichung’wah stated during a special sitting on Thursday, January 16, 2025.
