Firat to report FKF to Fifa
Former Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has confirmed his intentions to report Football Kenya Federation (FKF) to the World governing body FIFA after they failed to meet his demand notice for accrued salary.
Firat, who resigned after failing to take Kenya to the 2025 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, had asked FKF to pay him Sh75 million for accrued salary between 14 days of the notice.
The demand notice which was sent to the new FKF president Hussein Mohammed, further warned FKF that they will be reported to FIFA after the 14 days elapsed.
Firat has now confirmed he has authorized his agent to take up the matter because he was yet to receive any response from the federation.
“Until now there is nothing from FKF side, nothing, no answer, no offer, no nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, and I gave it all to my agent so I think now at this moment, I need only to give authorization to the lawyer and then it will go like these because it must be done by the lawyer and I see there is no development in Kenya,” said Firat.
“But from what I know is they have done nothing (to respond to my demands) and I don’t know especially now the former CS took over a different position and I don’t know how the situation with them and the new CS is, so it is really going to be a mess for sure and I don’t know what to say.”
Firat further detailed his telephone conversation with Mohammed after he had tendered his resignation.
“So in detail, on Saturday was FKF elections and on Sunday I sent the termination of the contract, and on Wednesday the new FKF president Hussein (Mohammed) called me, and I told him that I am not in Kenya and I explained to him the situation and that is all, after that I did not hear anything anymore,” explained Firat.
“I gave them the number of my agent so Mohammed talked to the agent and he explained everything was very clear, he told them also to talk to our lawyer, but I told Mohammed after what the Sports CS had done and the talks, there was no good will in my side anymore.
“It was in no way unacceptable, very disrespectful, so from now on they should talk directly to my agent about the matter because I want to focus on my own life and not this kind of matters.”
According to Firat, the silence of FKF over the matter will make it even messy and ‘I don’t know what to say.”
Firat further hit out at Murkomen, who was the Sports CS by the time he was resigning, saying he had killed every good thing that had been initiated by the previous Sports CS Ababu Namwamba including the Talanta Hela initiative.
“But from what I know is they have done nothing (to respond to my demands) and I don’t know especially now their friend the CS (Murkomen) took over in a different position and I don’t know how the situation with them and the new CS is,” offered Firat.
“So it is really going to be a mess for sure and I don’t know what to say, and this short term this CS (Murkomen), really destroyed everything including Talanata Hela initiative, I don’t even know why he has stopped so many things, because he was a good friend to Ababu (Namwamba), but he has destroyed everything that Namwamba had done, it is very interesting what is going on.”
Kenya, who were chasing a seventh appearance at the Morocco tournament, failed to seal a ticket after finishing third in Group J which consisted of winners Cameroon, second-placed Zimbabwe and Namibia, who finished last.
