Information and Communication Cabinet Secretary nominee William Kabogo on Tuesday, January 14, 2025, confirmed his multi-billion wealth status.

Appearing before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments at Parliament buildings in Nairobi, the former Kiambu Governor disclosed that he was worth Ksh3.01 billion.

Kabogo noted that his wealth spanned from residential houses, movable assets and interests and shares.

Breakdown of Kabogo’s wealth

The former Kiambu Governor informed the vetting committee that he had shares and interests worth Ksh1.5 billion.

Besides his investments in securities which he spoke highly of during the vetting exercise, the CS nominee also revealed that he had residential houses valued at Ksh700 million.

According to the astute businessman, his investments in movable assets including vehicles were worth Ksh40 million.

The former Kiambu county boss also disclosed that he owned land and farm of approximately Ksh756 million. The value of his cash and current assets stood at Ksh64 million.

“My total net worth is Ksh3.01 billion. Ksh700 million for residential houses, movable assets of about Ksh40 million, cash and current assets of about Ksh64 million, Ksh756 million in land and farm and approximately Ksh1.5 billion in interests and shares,” Kabogo told the vetting committee chaired by Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.

He was also pressured to explain if he still owned a helicopter which he confirmed that he owned in his youthful years when he was approved to fly but later disposed of it.

Kabogo further confirmed owning a monster truck whose value he stated had depreciated. If approved, Kabogo would join the rich list of Ruto’s Cabinet Secretaries.

Why he was suited

The former Kiambu Governor maintained that he was best fitted to take over the ICT docket from Margaret Nyambura who was re-assigned to Kenya’s High Commissioner to Ghana role, which she turned down.

Kabogo outlined his qualifications for the role, highlighting his successful management of digitisation projects in Kiambu County.

Kabogo explained that his experience in digitising the county’s systems makes him an ideal candidate for the position.

“I believe this is a good job for me as ICT and Digital Economy Minister,” Kabogo said.

“While I was in Kiambu, I digitised the entire revenue collection system, which increased our annual revenues from Ksh800 million to Ksh2.7 billion in just 14 months. Additionally, I digitised the health systems, ensuring that doctors could seamlessly provide treatment across all our hospitals.”
