The Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has called out Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and National Intelligence Service (NIS) Director General Noordin Haji for snubbing court summons.

The court through Justice Bahati had on December 31, 2024, summoned the two security bosses alongside the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Ibrahim Amin to appear before it on Wednesday, January 8, to respond to questions regarding the abduction that have been reported in the country, in a case filed by the Law Society of Kenya (LSK).

Taking to his official X account, Kalonzo who appeared in court on behalf of the victims’ families, expressed his disappointment that IG Kanja and DG Haji were a no show in court.

The former Vice President further stated that as the opposition, they hold a firm believe that no one is above the law, and called for an end to enforced disappearances.

“Justice Bahati’s orders on December 31, 2024, were extremely clear. IG Kanja and DG Haji were summoned to appear in court today. They were both NO-SHOWS. As the People’s Loyal Opposition, we firmly believe that no one is above the law. These enforced disappearances must end,” Kalonzo stated.

Kalonzo on abductions

Moreover, Kalonzo dragged President William Ruto into the reported abductions, arguing that there is an abduction squad that has been operating in the country under the watch of the head of state.

According to the 2027 presidential hopeful, it will be very hard to persuade Kenyans to trust the Kenya Kwanza government again, based on the current state of affairs in the country.

“It is clear that there is an Abduction Squad, and Mr. William Ruto is their Commander in Chief. No amount of chest-thumping, distortion, or downright lying will improve the situation or persuade Kenyans to trust Kenya Kwanza. Please do not insult Kenyans’ intelligence,” Kalonzo wrote on X.

IG Kanja risks sentence

While delivering a ruling against IG Kanja and DCI Amin after they skipped the court, Justice Bahati Mwamuye summoned the two for the next hearing.

He warned that they would be sent to jail if they did not attend. The hearing has been set for January 27.

“If the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja, misses the third hearing, I will have no option but to cite, convict, and sentence him on the spot,” the judge stated.
