‘Work to rebuild Kenyan football begins now’ – Hussein Mohammed’s message after winning FKF presidential elections
Newly elected Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed has vowed to embark on an immediate journey of rebuilding Kenyan football.
In a statement on Saturday, December 7, 2024, Hussein who emerged victorious in a highly contested race, noted that his first assignment after taking over the instrument of power from the outgoing President Nick Mwendwa is to push for the restoration of glory days in the local football scene.
Hussein who is also Extreme Sports Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Vice Chairman of Muranga Seal Football Club (FC), maintained under his leadership, the nurturing of talent will resume and eventually restore the passion for the game.
“The work to rebuild Kenyan football begins now. Together, we will restore pride, nurture talent, and bring back the passion that unites us all,” Hussein’s statement read in part.
The newly elected FKF President indicated that all stakeholders would benefit under his leadership.
“This is not just our win – it’s a win for every player, fan, club, and supporter who dreams of a better future for our game,” he added.
Hussein whose running mate was former Harambee Stars midfielder McDonald Mariga also appreciated the delegates for throwing their weight behind his candidature.

Murkomen’s message
Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on his side, congratulated Hussein and Mariga indicating that he had no doubt that the two would help restore sanity in the Kenyan football arena.
Murkomen promised the two government support in their new role.
“Congratulations, Hussein Mohammed and McDonald Mariga, on your election today as the President and Vice President of FKF, respectively. Congratulations to all other elected office bearers. I have not an iota of doubt that you’re the best possible team that will inject new dynamism, energy and fresh ideas into the management of our football. I wish to assure you that the government will give you all the support you need to take our football to the next level,” Murkomen’s statement read in part.
“This should send a message to all federations who frustrate efforts to hold elections that their time is up. Good governance in our sports is not negotiable,” he added.

Analysis of elections
Hussein garnered 42 votes from 90 voters that were up for grabs in the elections conducted at the Moi International Sports Centre, Indoor Arena in Kasarani.
He, however, failed to attain the minimum 50 per cent required to win the election in the first round.
Shortly after the election results were announced, Hussein’s rival Petra Dorris who was deputized by the incumbent Nick Mwendwa conceded and congratulated Hussein.
In her speech, the outgoing FKF Vice President congratulated Hussein Mohammed and wished him well as he took over the FKF leadership.
