Lawyer Nelson Havi has called of former Chief Justice David Maraga and his predecessor Willy Mutunga to consider contesting for the country’s presidency in the 2027 elections.
Taking to his official X account on Monday, November 4, 2024, the former Law Society of Kenya (LSK) president stated that the two former CJs are best suited to lead Kenya as presidents.
Havi on Kenya’s presidency
Havi argued that one of the duo should sacrifice their retirement and offer themselves for the presidential elections.
According to Havi, the country needs a wise old man to cure from its current state.
“CJ Dr Willy Mutunga SC or C J David Maraga must sacrifice their retirement and offer themselves for election as President of the Republic of Kenya. We need a wise old man to return this social contract to factory settings,” Havi stated.

Lawyer as president
Havi further created a poll on X platform and nominated lawyers, among them political leaders, asking Kenyans to vote on one of them who should then run for president.
The lawyer nominated Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, Wiper Democratic Movement party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former CJ Maraga and his predecessor Mutunga.
As at the time of publishing this article, over 8,000 netizens had cast their votes, with Maraga leading at 63.3 per cent.

Havi’s statement comes as politicians continue engaging Kenyans in campaigns three years ahead of the next general election.
Ruto on early campaigns
President William Ruto in September 2024, had to warn political leaders against engaging in early 2027 campaigns.
The Head of State asked leaders to spend their time offering services to the people and fulfilling the pledges they made to the electorate in 2022, adding that 2027 will be decided by the voters.
“Let us focus on delivering the commitments we made to the people of Kenya and not on how to win the next election,” he said.
The President also called on leaders to set aside their political differences and work together to advance the country’s development agenda.
“Let us use this opportunity to build our nation, plan for development projects such as roads, water, education, health, jobs, housing and markets,” he said.
