AFC Leopards have announced they are parting ways with acting CEO Albert Wesonga after one year at the helm of the club.

In a statement on Saturday, October 26, 2024, Ingwe stated that Wesonga’s term had expired and that he was no longer allowed to transact any business on behalf of the club.

“This is to notify our esteemed customers, suppliers and the general public that Albert Wesonga is no longer the acting CEO of AFC Leopards SC after the expiry of his contract. He is, therefore, not authorised to transact any business on behalf of AFC Leopards SC or any of its concerns or represent the club in any capacity. AFC Leopards shall not accept any liability arising from his actions,” the club said.

Wesonga’s rise to CEO

Wesonga rose to the helm of the club in October 2023, after Ingwe failed to win a single match in their six opening matches of the 2023/2024 season.

At the time, the 12-time champions Ingwe resolved to relieve its former CEO Victor Bwibo of his duties to chart a new path.

Bwibo- a former midfielder of AFC Leopards- was fired after months of disappointing results which culminated in a 2-0 loss against Gor Mahia.

Bwibo had steered the club for five years at the time of his departure. Wesonga was the team manager before his appointment to the helm of the club in an acting capacity.

Search for new CEO

Ingwe will be in search of a new CEO to turn around its fortunes and restore the club to its former glory, which has proved elusive.

Last season, the club got off to a bad start but stabilised along the way to secure position five on the table after posting 13 wins, 12 draws and 9 losses after 34 matches.

The club stabilised after hiring Wesonga who took over the leadership of Ingwe when the club were yet to win a single game in October 2023 and had registered two losses and four draws in the season’s first six opening matches.

Currently, AFC Leopards are in fourth place in the premier league table after securing three wins, two losses and one draw in their opening six matches.

Ingwe are a point behind Mara Sugar and Kariobangi Sharks and just 4 points shy of league leaders KCB.
