The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Electoral Board has promised to deliver free, fair, verifiable and transparent football polls following their official unveiling yesterday at a Nairobi Hotel.
The board that has been tasked to oversee the delayed FKF elections consists of members and will be led by media scholar Hesbon Owilla (Chairperson) while advocate of the High Court Marceline Sande is serving as the secretary while Sport Journalists Association of Kenya James Waindi and Alfred Ng’anga are members.
FKF’s National Executive Committee appointed the named board, which again got a pass vote from FKF delegates during the Special General Meeting last month in Nairobi thus setting the momentum for the polls.
Speaking during their parade to the public, Owillo noted the board is cognizant of the mountainous assignment vested upon them and that they have rolled their sleeves to deliver a remarkable process for all the stakeholders of the game.
“As FKF Electoral Board we recognize the immense responsibility placed on us. We have met, exchanged ideas and most importantly, we have unpacked the task ahead of us and I can confidently say that we are united in one goal which is to deliver elections that are not only free, fair and transparent but also credible and verifiable,” Owilla remarked.
The board further revealed that it will release the electoral road map to the public on Thursday while aiming to conclude its mandate of conducting the elections latest mid-December 2024.
“We understand that this moment means so much to the football community in Kenya, to the young kids growing up knowing that football is something that can offer a professional livelihood.”
“We know that football represents hope and a promise of a thriving economic ecosystem to almost everywhere. The opportunity for football stakeholders to run football presents itself with the unveiling of this board,” Owilla added.
Yesterday’s event signals hope as far as the election is concerned and will momentarily calm some nerves amongst potential aspirants and local football enthusiasts who are keen to see the process complete.
Thus far, it is only Extreme Sports Chief Executive Officer Hussein Mohamed who has openly announced his desire to vie for the Football Kenya Federation’s presidency in the coming elections following his pompous launch late last month.
It is anticipated that more aspirants will submit their interests for the available positions once the road map is clear.
