Kiambu Senator Karungo Thang’wa has questioned President William Ruto’s intentions regarding the latest claims that some Members of Parliament are plotting to impeach Deputy President William Ruto.

Speaking on Sunday, September 22, 2024, Karungo who accompanied the second in command for a church service in Kiambu, raised direct questions to President Ruto.

The Kiambu Senator wondered if any other person would trust the President if the impeachment motion against DP Gachagua is tabled in the House.

Karungo Thang’wa opined that other regions would fear trusting Ruto in any political arrangement over the betrayal.

“Tunauliza rais kama unaeza kubalia Deputy President wako afanyiwe ivo na ni yeye alisimama na wewe, can you be trusted by any other person (We want to ask the President, if you can allow the Deputy President to be subjected to such and he is the one who supported you, can you be trusted by any other person),” Karungo posed.

“That is the only question we are asking the President humbly because he is the only one who can bring the motion in the House,” he added.

The Kiambu Senator further admonished the President arguing that the Mt Kenya region supported him overwhelmingly and that an impeachment motion would be considered an act of breach of trust.

Keep the promise

The latest sentiments come after Gachagua publicly admitted that money had been dished out to some MPs to support an impeachment motion against him.

In an explosive TV interview, Gachagua further claimed that a meeting was convened in Kitisuru at a Cabinet Secretary’s home where the impeachment move was hatched.

However, Gachagua pleaded with his boss to honour his promise. Gachagua referenced the promise that President Ruto made during the 2022 campaign season, confirming that he would not allow his deputy to be demeaned if he assumed the presidency, the way he had been under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“It looks like there’s a jinx around the office of the deputy president. President Ruto had a very rough time to work with former President Uhuru Kenyatta. But at least he had five years to work very well without any disturbance, I have only done one year, and what is happening to me is worse than what happened to Ruto,” Gachagua said.

“President Ruto gave a promise when he was complaining about the way he was prosecuted, demeaned, mistreated, and harassed. He committed that under his watch if they elect him as President, his deputy would not be diminished, harassed, disrespected or prosecuted,” he added.
