Mutuse and Otiende Amollo brief Wetang’ula on progress made by National Assembly legal team
Kibwezi West Member of Parliament Mwengi Mutuse and his Rarieda counterpart Otiende Amollo on Thursday, November 28, 2024, met National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula to brief him on the progress of made by the legislators’ legal team.
The duo met Wetang’ula at his Parliament Buildings office. Mutuse and Amollo are co-vice chairpersons of the National Assembly Legal Caucus.
Taking to his official X account, Speaker Wetang’ula revealed that the two lawmakers had not only briefed him on the progress made by the Legislators’ legal team, but also shared insights from their recent meeting with the South African National Assembly Deputy Speaker Annelie Lotriet.
“I held a consultative meeting with members of the National Assembly Legal Caucus at my office in Parliament Buildings. The Caucus co-vice chairpersons, Hon. Dr. Otiende Amollo and Hon. Mwengi Mutuse, briefed me on the progress made by the Legislators’ legal team and shared insights from their recent meeting with the South African National Assembly Deputy Speaker, Hon. Dr. Annelie Lotriet,” Wetang’ula stated.
Wetang’ula receives commemorative plaque
The former Bungoma county senator went ahead to state that during their meeting, Mutuse and Amollo presented him with a commemorative plaque, a souvenir from Dr. Lotriet.
Wetang’ula also underscored the role played by the National Assembly’s legal caucus, which includes advising the Speaker and the House on legal matters.
The team also provides pro bono legal services whenever the National Assembly faces litigation, among other responsibilities.
“During the meeting, they presented me with a commemorative plaque, a souvenir from Hon. Dr. Lotriet. The Legal Caucus plays a key role in the National Assembly by advising the Speaker and the House on legal matters and providing pro bono legal services whenever the National Assembly faces litigation, among other responsibilities,” Wetang’ula said.

Mutuse in public limelight
Mutuse blew to the public limelight in October 2024 when he successfully moved a motion in the National Assembly to remove former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from office by way of impeachment.
Mutuse leveled 11 charges against Gachagua.
The charges included gross violations of the Constitution, contradicting government policies and failing to uphold his duties as Deputy President, interfering with devolved county functions, among others.
