Samuel Odara emerged as the star of the FKF Premier League’s opening round, scoring a brace to help Mara Sugar FC secure a 3-0 victory over Kakamega Homeboyz at Awendo Green Stadium.

Odara’s impressive debut performance has placed him at the top of the league’s scoring chart early in the season.

He is currently the leading scorer, with several other players having netted one goal each. Among them are AFC Leopards’ quartet of Victor Omune, Boniface Munyendo, Arthur Gitego, and new signing Sydney Lokale, who all contributed to their team’s 4-0 win over Mathare United.

Other players who found the back of the net in the opening round include Chris Erambo of Tusker FC, whose goal secured a win over Sofapaka FC; Beja Nyamawi of Bandari FC; Mathias Isogol of Mara Sugar; Douglas Mokaya of Bidco United; Henry Juma of Posta Rangers; and Joe Waithira of Murang’a Seal.

The clean sheets tally features Farouk Shikhalo, Joseph Ochuka, Lewis Opiyo, Felix Adoyo, Sebastian Wekesa, and Wilson Mwangi.

The league will now take a brief break as Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has named a provisional squad for the upcoming 2025 AFCON Qualifiers against Zimbabwe and Namibia, scheduled between September 2-10, 2024.

The squad includes a mix of local and internationally-based players. Captain Michael Olunga leads the foreign-based contingent, which also features Joseph Okumu, Timothy Ouma, Eric Johanna, Eric Ouma, Amos Nondi, Richard Odada, Jonah Ayunga, John Avire, and Teddy Akumu.

Harambee Stars will play their first qualifier on Friday, September 6, 2024, against Zimbabwe at Stade Mandela National Stadium in Uganda, followed by a match against Namibia in South Africa.
