Just a day after President William Ruto hinted at his willingness to have a broad-based political arrangement including political leaders from the opposition in charting ways for the betterment of economic situation of the country, a section of political leaders of Kenya Kwanza coalition from Rift Valley region have weighed in on the matter.
The leaders are calling on Ruto to overhaul his administration and form a government of national unity to bring on board key opposition figures in a deal which would help build national cohesion and unity.
“We are in support of President William Ruto’s agenda of uniting this country. Gen Zs have really taught us lesson on being tribeless and instead soldier on as one united country,” Tinderet MP Julius Melly said.
His sentiments were backed by Marakwet legislator Timothy Toroitich who has called on President Ruto to appoint opposition leaders in his government in a bid to enhance national cohesion.
“As leaders, we should not walk the slippery slope to divide Kenyans further; let’s have leaders from opposition side too to have positions in government; we will have a one united country,” Toroitich said.
Toroitich said leaders should focus their attention on changing the country instead of getting involved in remarks that divide the country.
“We have many things to do as leaders. Let’s focus our attention on changing the country and not dividing the country on ethnic lines,” he added
Government in right direction
Emurua Dikirr legislator Johana Ng’eno and his Emgwen counterpart Josses Lelmengit said President Ruto was confident that the steps taken by his administration to revive the economy were fruitful.
“I am sure about the future of our nation. Let’s stay focused and plan together for a better life in the future. This nation is going somewhere,” Ng’eno said.
The leaders assured Kenyans of the Kenya Kwanza government’s commitment to developing every region of the country.
They said the government has developed plans for each region based on their development needs.
“We have development plans in every part of Kenya. Every region must be part of our development agenda. No county will be left out of our development agenda,” Lelmengit said.
The leaders spoke during a burial ceremony of Alex Melly, an elder brother of Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, in Mosoriot village in Nandi County.
