Kenya will face Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 qualifiers after groups for the continental challenge were confirmed in Johannesburg.
The groups for the qualifying rounds were announced as Morocco prepares to host the continent’s premier football tournament for the second time in its history.
Kenya AFCON 2025 opponents
Kenya, who will be making a return to continental football for the first time since the 2019 finals in Egypt where Harambee Stars crashed out in the group stages will battle out for qualification against Cameroon, Namibia, and Zimbabwe.
The Kenyan team did not participate in the 2023 edition due to an indefinite ban from FIFA, imposed on February 25, 2022, citing alleged government interference in the running of their football federation.
Cameroon and Namibia went as far as the last 16 in the past edition in Cote D’Ivore, in a tournament where Namibia secured a historical win against Tunisia in the group stages.
Tanzania is in Group H alongside Guinea, Tanzania, and Ethiopia while Uganda has booked dates with South Africa, Congo, and South Sudan.
AFCON 2025 Morocco
The North African nation was okayed to host the 2025 showpiece after Guinea was stripped of its rights in October 2022 due to fears about the readiness of facilities. Joint bids from Nigeria and Benin, as well as candidacies from Algeria and Zambia, were all withdrawn leaving Morocco as the only contender.
Morocco is now on track to stage the tournament for the second time after first doing so in 1988.
Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda saw off Botswana, Egypt, and Senegal to win the hosting rights for the 2027 showpiece, with the tournament now set to return to Eastern Africa for the first time since 1976 when it took place in Ethiopia.
