Mathare United return to FKF PL after one season in NSL
Mathare United clinched their return to the FKF Premier League in style with a resounding 3-0 victory over Darajani Gogo at the Dandora Stadium.
Meschack Ochieno opened the scoring in the 15th minute, capitalizing on defensive lapses from the visitors to blast the ball home from close range, marking his 12th goal of the season.

Following the early goal, the match turned into a tightly contested affair, with the visitors bolstering their defense to thwart United’s attacks.
Dan Odhiambo came close to doubling the lead in the 60th minute, but his effort with his weaker left foot was saved by the Gogo goalkeeper.
The game witnessed a brief halt in the 70th minute due to protests from the visitors over a disallowed goal.
However, play resumed, and United capitalized on their momentum, earning a penalty in the 81st minute after Kibet was fouled in the area during a counterattack.
Steve Kimari made no mistake from the spot, extending United’s lead to 2-0.
Fidel Otieno sealed the victory for Mathare United with a goal in the closing stages, securing their return to the top tier of Kenyan football.
This triumph comes as a redemption for Mathare United, who were relegated to the National Super League earlier in June.
The team, known as the Slum Boys, narrowly avoided relegation for five consecutive seasons but failed to maintain their status this time.

A draw against Ulinzi Stars left them second from bottom in the league standings, six points adrift of Wazito, who secured the relegation/promotion playoff spot with a narrow win over Bidco United.
Mathare United’s relegation earlier in the month was a bitter blow for the club and its supporters, especially considering their survival last year when the FKF management declared the 2021/2022 season null and void.
The team’s past struggles, including relegation by the FKF Premier League Transition committee in 2022 due to walkovers, highlight the challenges they have faced on their journey back to the top flight.
