Kiambu MCAs seek for peace with Governor Wamatangi
A section of Kiambu leaders is now rooting for a truce between wrangling Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi and a section of parliamentarians for enhanced development.
Wamatangi has been entangled in a simmering row pitting him and MPs among them National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa, Alice Ng’ang’a (Thika), Gabriel Kagombe (Gatundu South), Elijah Njoroge (Gatundu North), Githua Wamacukuru (Kabete), Mburu Kahangari (Lari), Machua Waithaka (Kiambu Town), Njuguna Kawanjiku (Kiambaa) and John Kiragu (Limuru) over alleged poor administration of the devolved unit.
The squabbles between the elected leaders have intensified and degenerated to violence that concerned politicians feel will only continue to derail development projects.
On May 17, 26-year-old David Nduati lost his life after chaos broke out at Kiganjo village in Thika in a supremacy battle that further left scores of others with multiple injuries.
According to police, Kamenu Ward MCA Peter Mburu was supervising the allocation of stalls in a market which he had launched the previous day when MP Ng’ang’a and her counterparts trooped to the site to launch the same project accompanied by their followers.
Violence is said to have broken out when Mburu supporters started pelting stones at the MPs and their supporters.
In the ensuing melee, Nduati lost his life while others among them MPs Kagombe and Ng’ang’a escaped with unspecified injuries before they were driven to safety.
Among others, MP Ng’ang’a’s bodyguard, area assistant county commissioner Philomena Nzioki suffered multiple injuries that got them hospitalized.
